A few weeks ago I did an interview on ContraMinds, and I’m delighted to say that I believe it to be the clearest exploration of Egan’s ideas that I’ve yet done in a podcast! Swami was a fantastic interviewer. (And the fact that the interview he did right before mine was with Scott Young of Ultralearning fame is pretty cool, too!)
Our conversation is long and rich and includes some disagreements. You can watch it as a video here:
…or listen to it here (and also probably on your podcast app).
Wanna continue the conversation? I’ll leave the comments section open for everyone.
In other news, the teaching year is steadily approaching its long-foreseen apocalyptic climax: two straight weeks of online summer camps, with one new lesson each day (usually I take a whole week to hone a lesson). Expect me to post here a lot less between now and mid-June.
(Oh! If you have a kid 8–15 who’d like to tackle some epic intellectual questions, I can give you a discount on the live classes — the fuller they are, the more fun the exploration. Next week’s is on neurodiversity, and the week after’s on Bigfoot.1 Just ping us on our website and stealthily drop the phrase “Hiden Goseke” into the message, and we’ll give you a discount on the live class.)
And I would apologize for falling behind on posts lately… except the reason is that I’ve been working intensively on some secret blog-related projects that I’ll be able to talk openly about soon. Look forward to ‘em!
And if you think “that sure sounds unscientific”, you haven’t been reading this blog closely enough.
Hi! I just wanted to say I discovered Egan through your work (and I believe a grant application on Manifund?) and I just finished the first couple chapters of "The Future of Education" and they were such a mind-bending delight. As someone who hasn't felt engaged by most theorists of education, it was like discovering a whole new kind of music. Thanks! I look forward to reading more of your own work as I become more acquainted with his ideas.
