Update: the recording is below! The next one of these will be held…
Saturday, October 5, 2024
3pm Eastern / 12pm Pacific
It’ll be in lieu of our book club. (These seem more helpful to people than a book club, and as I’m close to burn out, I can only do one. I’ll update the now-incorrect parts of this blog soon.)
After a successful trial run last weekend, we’re back for the first real event in our “Egan and ChatGPT Walk into a Bar” livestreaming.
This time we’ll be diving into grammar. In an hour-long Zoom webinar, we’ll pick a painfully grammar dull topic, and transform it using Egan’s tools and ChatGPT.
Imaginary Interlocutor: Which grammar topic?
You’ll choose in the first 5 minutes. (Parts of speech? Semicolon rules? Pronoun-antecedent agreement? They’re all fair game!)
By the end, we’ll have a sketch for a lesson (or set of lessons) that’s intellectually honest, emotionally compelling, and connected to the bigger picture of life, the Universe, and everything. It’ll be able to be used for people of all ages and most walks of life.

I.I.: Do you really think this’ll go this well?
Last time we did “long division”, and ended up coming up with a week-long lesson plan that grabbed you by the brainstem and didn’t let go. So… yes, I’m optimistic.
This is particularly geared to homeschoolers, classroom teachers, and other educators. It’s designed to be an outreach event. Wanna help move the Egan revolution forward? Post this somewhere that people might love learning how to do this.
Wish i could join. Alas, Helene (of Yucatan?) Has just begun her gusty giggling. She'll be in the throwes of gushing glee as her gyre jeopardizes our johdpurs. Viva Valdosta! I'll bring my garrulous jocularity with me next time, if our house survives.
