Q: What’ll we be talkin’ about?
Art, art, art. After we try out some of the ways of experiencing art that I limned out in last week’s pattern, we’ll be dreaming about how art might infuse a full K–12 curriculum — how history, math, literature, and science might be made more wonderful when combined with art.
Q: What should I read beforehand?
It’s a “book” club, not a book club, so there’s no required book. I might recommend, though, re-reading that post. You might also enjoy looking at the list of art-focused patterns we have coming up.
THAT said, if you’re interested in that pattern, you’ll love Touching the Art, by Luc Travers. It’s short, and if you read it beforehand, you’ll have a better feel for some of the stuff we’re doing.
Q: How long?
After an hour we yell “it’s over!”, then some of us stay awhile later to talk fun education-y stuff.
Q: What should I bring?
I’ll probably have a beer, but won’t be sharing. Um, BYOB?
Q: Who typically comes to these things?
A mix of teachers, educational reformers, and parents from around the world. Frankly, some pretty dang impressive people.
Q: What if I can’t make it?
A recording will be made available to paid members (I’ll post it here, below the fold) a few days afterwards.
Q: I’m from the future, and I went to the meeting, and it was INCREDIBLE, and I’d like to continue the conversation.
Starting this month, we’ll be leaving the comments section open afterwards for paid members — a little attempt to cultivate community, and all.
Q: How do I get access to this august meeting?
If you’re a paid subscriber, the link’s below! If you’re not, becoming a paid subscriber is only $5 a month, which includes (normally) a “book” club and getting to comment on the “pattern language” posts.
Behold, the proverbial paywall!
